It’s now just a few days before Christmas, so I thought that perhaps I should play some seasonal music. Yo Yo Ma has an excellent CD with some wonderful guests including Dave Brubeck, but I chose his version of John Lennon’s Happy Christmas, and the beautiful Wexford Carol with Allison Krauss.

A couple of local musicians have some new CDs out too: Jim Finn’s band, Finn, has 10 Years Old, and the elegant Dennis Aubrey has his Christmas 1914 available; a couple of tracks from each seemed to be a good idea. Be sure to catch them around the traps in Sydney.

Yesterday we heard the sad news of the passing of Solomon Bourke. That, along with Saturday’s 70th birthday anniversary of John Lennon gave me a great start in terms of some points of interest around which to begin to build tonight’s show.

Add to that some new-ish music from Jesse McReynolds’ recent “Songs Of The Grateful Dead” CD, and a little bit of some Dave Getz (Big Brother and the Holding Company) and I think I had the makings of not too bad a show.
