Welcome to 2011.

During Nasser T’s show I distinctly heard the strains of the old “You Keep Me Hanging On” by the Supremes, included in one of his mixes. So I figured that I have a good version of that track – perhaps the best version, by Vanilla Fudge.

So that’s how I opened the show, but of course, one good Hammond track deserves another. Four or five, actually.

And with the date being so proximate to New Year’s, and with so many hangovers so fresh in everyone’s mind, I figured let’s turn to drink.

First of all, happy birthday to Sycamore no 1. You know who you are.

Tonight I felt like starting with a bit of classic Oz rock (well, Kiwi, really) but who’s going to deny that Max Merritt is a great?

Jimmy Barnes with Cheap Wine is a prelude to what I have lined up towards the end of the show, and then the ‘bone solo (I love ‘bone solos) in “Piney Brown Blues” by Jimmy McGriff with the Jay McShann really got me in the mood for some good blues, but not before a little bit of self-indulgence with one more ‘bone solo, this time from Bill’s Monkey (with my on bass) doing T-Bone Walker’s Stormy Monday.
